Creating a design system
When I joined JustGiving, there was no design system with each team having its its own way of working. Designers kept recreating components, and engineers had to rebuild UI elements repeatedly, slowing development and causing inconsistencies.
In my spare time, I built an MVP to demonstrate the need for a design system and eventually a dev ops team. After proving its value, I worked with engineers and a PM to define and build the core components and principles of what became Carepack.
I prioritised accessibility, scalability, and clear documentation to ensure easy adoption. I also set up a fortnightly drop-in and a system for others to contribute to the design system.
