A vision of donations as a service, a new revenue model for JustGiving

Overview

Overview

During my time as Lead Designer on the checkout, I noticed that while JustGiving gets a huge amount of traffic and donations, the product wasn’t sticky enough with the average user only making 1 or 2 donations a year. I saw an opportunity to create a more engaging and sustainable donation model and started a self-initiated project to solve this.

I designed and built a prototype for an app inspired by an investment portfolio but designed for charitable giving. The app would track and visualise the impact of a user’s giving, functioning like a subscription model with users committing to a monthly amount. A portion of their contribution could go to a favourite charity, while the remainder would be allocated by JustGiving based on the user's preferences. This approach ensured a steady income for charities while providing users with a more personalised and meaningful giving experience.

I worked closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to design and validate the concept. After developing and presenting the prototype to the business, the concept gained traction and evolved into a vision piece for the company that's still being worked on today.
